Blackburn with Darwen Council has put on hold controversial plans to outsource its in-house care services, pending a consultation that will consider other options for their future.

Councillors had been set to consider recommendations to push forward with plans to transfer council care services to a social enterprise company, in a meeting of the executive board last night.

However, officials amended their recommendations to members to allow for a consultation considering all options for the future of council care services, including keeping them in house.

The plan to hive off services to a social enterprise had prompted a row with the local Unison branch.

Council members approved the revised recommendations and are set to consider the results of the consultation in the autumn.
