Social workers are preparing for events around the UK to mark World Social Work Day on Tuesday (15 March).
BASW-The College of Social Work will host several events around the UK to mark the day, which is taking the theme of Social work voices responding to global crises: Together we develop the agenda!.
Its Wales branch, BASW Cymru, is holding an event alongside its AGM in Cardiff on 16 March, and wants each BASW CoSW national committee to follow its lead in establishing links with social workers in another country, in its case Nicaragua.
In Scotland, the Scottish Association of Social Workers will consider innovative ways of working in an era of cuts in public spending, as members meet at the Glasgow Science Centre on 15 March.
Meanwhile, the Northern Ireland Association of Social Work will focus on substance misuse issues when it meets on 14 March in the Long Gallery at Stormont.
And in England, a joint event organised by BASW CoSW England and World Social Work Day will take place in Birmingham on 16 March. This will focus on maintaining morale in troubled times, and will feature a speaker from the Russian Union of Social Workers.
On World Social Work Day itself, the College of Social Work will discuss its plans for the future at an event at Chelsea Old Town Hall in west London.
