Two men have been charged with the murder of a retired social worker in Sheffield.

Two men have been charged with the murder of a retired social worker in Sheffield.

Another two men have been arrested and bailed pending further enquiries.

Ashley Foster, 21 of High Green, and Jonathan Bowling, 22, of Fox Hill, appeared in court on Friday and were remanded in custody. The case was adjourned to Sheffield Crown Court and is expected to start later this week.

Retired social worker and father-of-four Alan Greaves, 68, was attacked close to his home while on his way to midnight mass on Christmas Eve. He suffered severe head injuries and later died in hospital from his injuries.

The inquest into his death was also opened and adjourned at South Sheffield Coroners Court on Thursday.
