Community Care’s adoption writer Sally Donovan has added another prestigious award to her growing collection, picking up Business Columnist of the Year at the 2014 PPA Awards.
The achievement follows Sally’s success last year when she was named Business Columnist of the Year 2013 by the British Society of Magazine Editors.
Sally, mother to two children she and her husband adopted from the UK care system, was praised by the PPA judges for her ‘powerful and engaging’ writing on an important and highly topical subject. She fought off stiff competition from other respected columnists, including Dr Phil Peverley from Pulse magazine and Jeremy Swain from Inside Housing magazine.
The star-studded ceremony was held at London’s Grosvenor Hotel and presented by TV personality Claudia Winkelman. Those battling it out for top industry awards included well-known columnists Giles Coren, A A Gil and Lucy Mangan.
Sally has already blogged about her win, describing it as ‘bizarre and surreal’, and the brilliant night we all had celebrating with her. As a team, we couldn’t be prouder of Sally. She is not only a highly talented columnist and author, but a credible and committed adoption campaigner, now sitting on an advisory panel at the Department for Education.
Here is just a small selection of Sally’s award-winning writing:
‘Like a computer virus, low self-esteem spreads silently, corrupting and wreaking havoc’
