Do you know a seafarer or their family who are in need of advice or assistance?
There are nearly 150 maritime charities providing a huge range of important welfare services to UK seafarers from the Merchant Navy, Royal Navy & Royal Marines, UK fishing fleets, and their dependants. As a result, knowing who to turn to can sometimes be difficult.
There is, however, a handy online tool that can be used to search and find the maritime charity or charities best placed to assist your client.
The Maritime Charities Welfare Guide is an interactive, online tool available to help anyone searching for assistance from a maritime charity and is hosted on the Seafarer Support website. The intuitive web-based guide offers three ways of searching: ‘Quick Search’, ‘Key Words Search’ and ‘Advanced Search’. Using a weighted system, the guide differentiates between organisations and directs users to the charity or charities best suited to help.
The Maritime Charities Welfare Guide enhances the service provided by Seafarer Support, a free confidential referral service for serving and former seafarers and their families. The guide provides the central online referral service for the entire UK maritime charity sector. It is funded by the Maritime Charities Group (MCG), a partnership of four maritime organisations: The Merchant Navy Welfare Board, Seafarers UK Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and Trinity House. The group is working together to fund the delivery of a wide range of efficient welfare projects across the UK maritime sector.
