Social work teams and practitioners can now nominate themselves for the 2015 Social Worker of the Year Awards, the annual celebration of good practice in the profession.

The awards are open to qualified social workers in England and nominations will be accepted until 5pm on Friday 24 July.

There are 17 categories to enter across children’s and adult social services, including Mental Health Social Worker of the Year, Student of Social of the Year, Team of the Year, Lifetime Achievement and Outstanding Contribution to Social Work.

The awards, for which Community Care is the official media sponsor, were founded by independent social worker, Beverley Williams, in 2006.

Gaining momentum

Supporters of the 2015 event include the NSPCC, Local Government Association, Unison, Essex Cares, Core Assets and iMPOWER.

Sanctuary Social Care is the headline sponsor and the awards are also backed by corporate partners The College of Social Work and the British Association of Social Workers.

James Rook, managing director of Sanctuary Social Care, said: “The awards are gaining momentum and every year they are bigger and better than the previous year’s event.

“We’ve already had a number of enquiries from social workers, teams and organisations who are interested in entering the awards this year and I encourage anyone who is thinking of making a nomination to visit the website and find out more.”

Entry forms and full details of all the award categories are available on the Social Worker of the Year Awards website.
