Record care applications in October, Cafcass figures show

Community Care reported last month that care applications can surpass 12,000 in a year for the first time

Cafcass received record care demand for the month of October, it was revealed today.

There were 1,079 care applications received by the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service in October, 70 more than the same period last year, making it the highest October on record.

The record for care demand in a month has been broken twice this financial year, in June and July, and Community Care reported last month that if the current level of demand continues, care applications will surpass 12,000 for the first time this year. Last year, Cafcass received a total of 11,156 applications were received.

Private law demand fell by 2%, compared to the same period last year.
