‘We can’t change the existing systems and frameworks if we work within them’

Social entrepreneur and author of ‘Radical Help’ Hilary Cottam has told social workers not to let systems cause services to “miss the real things”.

In a wide-ranging speech at a Frontline Leadership Seminar in the Midlands, Cottam outlined the challenges posed to families by current social work systems, how social workers can have their time swallowed by process and how it can be changed in practice.
