Find out why you’ll go a step further with Leeds CAMHS

A feature sponsored by Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust

Here in Leeds, we’re committed to taking child and adolescent mental health services further. We’re developing practices that are safe, evidence based and truly innovative.

Why? Because we believe finding new ways to work and better ways to support people is the right thing to do – especially in these changing and challenging times.

Our goal is to help children and young people move forward in their lives, towards better mental health. Evolving ideas and progressive services come with the territory.

So what does that mean in practice? Put simply, it means pushing boundaries, so we can provide the best services possible to patients and the wider community.

‘Joined-up approach’

A joined-up approach is integral to how we operate. Compared to many others in the sector, we are structurally advanced, and realising the benefits of multi-agency working.

Our innovations range from training and education films, through to embracing the possibilities of digital technology in communications, young person friendly apps and record keeping.

In specialist community CAMHS we work as multidisciplinary teams and within specialist clinics. Our staff are trained in a range of different assessment techniques, evidence-based therapies and treatments, we’re able to offer tailored services spanning everything from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), self-harm, to autistic spectrum conditions (ASC) and mood disorders.

Based in central Leeds, our CAMHS inpatients unit takes care of young people with serious mental health difficulties. Commissioned by NHS England, we admit young people from across the country for assessment and treatment. Our multidisciplinary team offers therapeutic groups, individual therapy and educational provision.

As we grow, we are developing exciting new services. Most recently, these include the Leeds MindMate Single Point of Access (SPA) and CAMHS Eating Disorder Service.

‘The right services, at the right time’

The SPA is about connecting children and young people to the right services, at the right time. It gives professionals and referrers one clear destination for information and service access.

The Eating Disorder Service works with young people who present with primary eating disorders. We are one of the first in the UK to implement family-based treatment for anorexia nervosa.

Involving children, young people and their families is crucial to our success. They contribute ideas and opinions to the development of pathways, services – and even our recruitment process! That’s why we have introduced an exciting new role of participation worker to develop this further.

As we grow, we are seeking a range of skilled and enthusiastic professionals to join us. People who will go above and beyond – like those who pulled on ski salopettes to get to an appointment when their car was stopped by snow, and like the dedicated individual who stayed at A&E into the night to support a family. Our people do what they do because they truly, deeply, care.

In return for such passionate commitment, we offer excellent training and development opportunities. A role with Leeds CAMHS offers scope to go further – from the knowledge and experience you’ll develop, to the career path you can forge.

But don’t just take our word for it. Watch our video to see why our brilliant people find Leeds CAMHS such a uniquely rewarding place to practice – and why you will too.
