The NSPCC today called for a contact point to be set up for worried parents to report concerns about child abuse in every area.
The charity also wants better risk assessment for sex offenders and more support for victims of child sex abuse.
Mary Marsh, director and chief executive of the NSPCC, said: “Understandably the public have serious concerns about child sex offenders living amongst them. Parents want to be re-assured that their children are safe from attack and that sex offenders have been risk-assessed, are being properly supervised and appropriately housed.”
The charity’s calls were in response to a current Home Office review of child sex offenders commissioned by the home secretary. A report with detailed proposals is expected later this year.
