Clare Jerrom, who is a senior reporter with communitycare.co.uk and
Community Care magazine, has won a national award.
Clare was made new online journalist of the year in the
Periodical Training Council awards at the Millennium Mayfair hotel
in London.
She was rewarded in particular for her outstanding
efforts covering Lord Laming’s report on Victoria Climbie’s death,
and an exclusive report on Unison research. She was also commended
for a special web report on the detention of child asylum
seekers.
The judges said Clare was “an interactive journalist who truly
understands the medium”.
They said: “Clare is a passionate writer who is not afraid to
deal with sensitive issues, and
does so in an informed, mature way which belies her years.”
Colleague Amy Taylor, who is a reporter with communitycare.co.uk
and Community Care, was shortlisted in the same category. She was
commended for her work on a Connexions story which bucked the trend
of positive coverage of the programme, and her clear analysis of
the continuing care crisis.
