Guide to self-neglect assessments

Mental Capacity assessmentHelping those who neglect themselves can prove an impossible task for social workers. As we report, they have limited powers to intervene but also face media pressure to “do something”.
This interactive guide has been drawn up in consultation with Michael Preston-Shoot, professor of social work at the University of Bedfordshire, who has produced guidance on the issue for the Department of Health, due for publication shortly.  Answer the questions by clicking on the yes and no bubbles and follow the guide through to the end. Also, see our related guide to mental capacity assessments.
