Commission wage bill to top £57m

The wages bill for all council and health authority inspection
and registration staff transferring to the new National Care
Standards Commission and to Ofsted is expected to top £57
million, according to Department of Health research.

The survey of current earnings of inspection employees, carried
out as part of the implementation project leading up to the NCSC’s
launch next year, found the average basic salary was £22,887
for full-time and £10,354 for part-time staff.

The estimated number of staff expected to be employed by the
NCSC is 2,249, of whom three-quarters would be full time.
