Quitting social care mooted by many

Eighty-one per cent of visitors to Community Care‘s
website say long hours and low pay in social care have forced them
to consider leaving the profession.

Only 19 per cent said they have not thought about retraining to
work in another field.

This week’s question asks: Does the portrayal of social
workers in the media affect people’s attitudes towards social work
intervention?

The BBC soap opera Eastenders recently ran a storyline
where a social worker took a baby from its father with only one
day’s notice (see news, page 6).
