Report links care and drug abuse

One in five drug users has been in care during childhood and over
half have been excluded or suspended from school, a survey from
charity Addaction has found.

The survey, of people who have misused drugs and alcohol but who
have sought help for their problems, reveals that 54 per cent have
been excluded or suspended from school and 20 per cent had been in
care.

Of those who have been looked-after, 60 per cent said they had
started using drugs while in care or after leaving care. Some 64
per cent of respondents had been in prison.
