High expectations for teaching scheme

Primary school children are to be taught how to behave in a
£7m scheme announced by the Department for Education and
Skills.

Children will be taught “what is expected of them and what they
can expect from others”, says a statement from the department.

The “social and emotional aspects of learning” curriculum aims
to teach children behaviour skills so they are emotionally and
socially equipped and less likely to get into trouble.

Programmes will be rolled out across England following
successful trials in 25 local education authorities as part of the
Primary National Strategy Behaviour and Attendance programme.
