Cosla battles on despite resignations

The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities appears to have
weathered the storm of four councils resigning membership, as its
stages this year’s annual conference.

Earlier this year, Glasgow, Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Dundee
Councils all resigned unhappy at Cosla’s negotiations with
the Scottish executive over funding allocations. South Lanarkshire
also voted to leave, but has since postponed its resignation.

Cosla decided to continue in its representation of the remaining
28 Scottish authorities despite a funding crisis and a possible 19
staff redundancies.

The annual conference, Delivering Today – Developing for
Tomorrow, will be held at Crieff between Wednesday and Friday, 21
and 23 March. Among the keynote speakers will be first minister,
Henry McLeish, and four Scottish executive ministers. The
