Local authority social work departments are to play a greater
public health role following the announcement by the Scottish
executive of a new £3 million fund. Grants made from the fund
are to be matched by councils and health boards in tackling issues
such as alcohol and drug addiction, safe sex and healthier eating
among children from poorer areas.
