A major review of the laws on housing tenure in the social and
private rented sectors, will be undertaken by the Law
Commission.
The review is in response to a Law Commission report
‘Reform of Housing law: a Scoping Paper’, which
highlighted a range of issues within the current framework needing
reform.
The Commission has been asked to concentrate on reforms
surrounding housing tenure, and establish a modernised structure
for both social and private rented sectors.
Housing minister Nick Raynsford said: “The Law
Commission’s scoping paper highlights a long overdue need for
a simpler, less complex framework for housing tenure law one that
will be more transparent and better understood by landlords and
tenants alike.”
