New guidelines have been published to help service providers
cater for adults with autism in the run-up to new legislation based
on the recent learning difficulties White Paper.
Valuing People calls for specific, person-centred
services for people with autism and related disorders, rather than
the generic services they have traditionally received.
The guidelines, produced by the Foundation for People with
Learning Disabilities, include a set of principles on which
services should be based. These include creating strong links with
specialists in autism and related disorders, involving family
members and autism-specific training for staff.
