Assembly appoints head of Welsh care council

The Welsh National Assembly has appointed Mutale Nyoni as chair
of the Care Council for Wales, the social work regulatory body
which will become operational from October this year.

Nyoni is currently a member of the National Assembly’s
Homelessness Commission and has worked for more than 10 years in
housing at a senior management level. She is also chair of the
Black Minority Ethnic Housing Strategy Review group sponsored by
the Assembly and a former winner of Welsh Woman of the Year.

“I am delighted to be appointed to this new post. I know that
many people in our society depend on a wide range of social care
services,” said Nyoni. “Those people should be able to depend on
high quality services delivered by properly regulated staff, and
those staff should rightly be able to feel proud of the work they
do.”
