A former care worker at Quarriers’ children’s homes in
Renfrewshire was jailed today for sexually abusing girls in his care in the
1960s.
Samuel McBrearty (70) was jailed for twelve
years at the High Court in Glasgow having been found guilty last month of repeatedly
raping two girls between 1961 and 1971 in a residential child care unit in
Renfrewshire. McBrearty’s unnamed
victims were aged eight and eleven years at the time of the offences.
Lord Reid presiding said McBrearty had
“committed appalling offences against vulnerable children” and should be
treated with the full force of the law regardless of when the offences were
committed.
