The teacher found guilty of hitting his seven-year-old daughter
in a dentist’s waiting room, has won his appeal against being
struck off the teaching register by the General Teaching Council
(GTC).
The 49-year-old teacher, who cannot be named, was found guilty
of repeatedly slapping his seven-year-old child two years ago, but
admonished in court. He had failed in an earlier appeal against all
three of his children being placed on a social work supervision
order by the children’s hearing system.
His appeal against de-registration was heard in front of three
judges at the court of session in October when his lawyer described
him as a “victim of incompetence”. After deliberation, the judges
released their written findings on behalf of the teacher. The GTC
have not yet indicated if they will take any further action.
