Extra doctors and nurses recruited to tackle cancer

The fight against cancer in Scotland is being stepped up with
more than 130 extra doctors, nurses and other specialist health
professionals being recruited.

The £10.7 million recruitment package is aimed directly at
improving performance in NHS cancer “pressure points”, and is
designed to put an end to the postcode lottery of cancer care.

Cancer services in Scotland will benefit from 28 more specialist
cancer doctors, 38 more trained nurses and 50 dedicated cancer
staff.

Health minister Susan Deacon promised that the extra resources
would help shorten waiting times and improve access to “the right
care, in the right place, at the right time for patients”.
