Social work manager summoned to court

Carole Baptiste, the Haringey social worker manager who has
failed to give evidence to the inquiry into Victoria
Climbie’s death, has been summoned to appear at Camberwell
Green magistrates court on 12 December.

If she fails to appear in court a warrant for her arrest will be
issued, and she will face a six-month jail sentence.

Attempts to persuade Baptiste, who was responsible for
supervising Lisa Arthurworrey, to give evidence date back to
August. She had said she was too ill to attend, but her claim was
contradicted by her psychiatrist’s report.

Earlier this week, inquiry chairperson Lord Laming lost patience
with Baptiste and issued a summons for her to appear at the
inquiry.
