Woman challenges council in high court

A 75-year old woman campaigning to stop
Gloucestershire Council increasing care charges has won the right
to a full high court hearing of her case.

Gwynneth Jeffries was one of almost 2,000
people told in March that the amount they would have to pay for
home care services would be increased from £2 a week to
£17.

Her lawyers argued at the high court last week
that the council failed in its duty to consult users about the
increase which they also allege amounts to “ageism”.
