First minister Jack McConnell has given formal permission for
Glasgow council to ballot tenants on the controversial proposal to
transfer the its housing stock to Glasgow Housing Association.
In making the announcement, McConnell said: “By transferring
their homes to community ownership, tenants will reap real benefits
– warm, dry homes with modern kitchens and bathrooms, guaranteed
rent levels and a much greater say in the future management of
their homes and estates.”
The first minister’s decision looks likely to free the
council to proceed with their plans to hold the ballot on 4 March
this year.
