BAAF Adoption and Fostering has urged courts to promptly
reschedule cases involving the future of vulnerable children that were
cancelled because of the Queen Mother’s funeral.
The
Lord Chancellor announced last week that the court of appeal, the high court,
crown courts and county courts would not sit on Tuesday, 9 April as a mark of
respect for the Queen Mother. The central council of magistrates courts
committees also recommended court sittings should be cancelled.
BAAF
deputy chief executive Barbara Hutchinson said while the organisation
understood the Lord Chancellor’s decision, "we urge that every effort be
made to quickly reschedule court dates that have been delayed because of the
Queen Mother’s funeral."
