Birmingham review of toddler tragedy

Birmingham area child protection committee has launched a serious
case review into the death of Jordan Reid who was drowned by his
mother days before he turned two.

Mirlene Stewart, who this week admitted manslaughter at Swansea
Crown Court, was remanded in custody pending psychiatric
reports.

Stewart had told social services she could not cope with her son
but was refused a place in a psychiatric hospital because of a bed
shortage.

Last July she travelled from her home in Birmingham to
Pembrokeshire, Wales, with Jordan and took him to a beach where his
body was later found in a rock pool.
