Home care staff given deadline for criminal checks

New home care workers have been given a deadline by the
government for them to obtain criminal record checks.

Problems with the Criminal Record Bureau had led to the
requirement for checks on new domicilary care staff being postponed
indefinitely. But the government has now announced that the checks
must be done from October this year onwards.

Existing domiciliary and care home staff will need enhanced
rather than standard CRB checks from 31 October 2004.
