Priests believe Catholic Church has covered up abuse

A significant number of parish priests believe that the Catholic
Church has covered up incidents of child sex abuse, according to
new research, writes Amy Taylor.

An ICM poll, which had responses from 486 serving parish priests
and was carried out for the BBC television programme ‘Kenyon
Confronts’, found that many priests believe the Catholic Church has
covered up child sex abuse rather than dealing with offending
priests.

Two thirds of those who responded to the survey said they know
another Catholic priest personally who has been implicated in an
allegation of child sex abuse. However, almost all of respondents
said that the Catholic Church’s attitude towards child abuse had
improved over the past decade.
