Care Commission threatens home over eviction notice

Scottish regulatory body the Care Commission has threatened
Private Nursing Homes of Glasgow with legal action after residents
there were given less than one months’ notice to quit last
week, writes Maggie Wood.

The commission said the eighty elderly residents must be given
at least three months’ notice of the termination of their
tenancy.

A spokesperson from the commission said: “We have written
to the service provider, indicating that we require them to give
three months notice to residents and that we will take legal action
to enforce this if required.”

But Al Guthrie, director of PNH said that the date of closure of
the nursing home in Bearsden, Glasgow, and its sister home in
Edinburgh, has yet to be confirmed. He added that the decision to
close both homes is unavoidable given the level in reduction of
funding available from the Scottish executive, coupled with the
ever increasing regulations by the Care Commission.
