Prisoners are being denied education and training to prepare
them for life after release, say MPs.
Less than one in three prisoners have access to education at any
one time, a 12-month inquiry revealed.
MPs on the education and skills select committee criticised the
focus on basic skills qualifications, which they said was based on
a government “hunch” about what is needed most.
The report says education, vocational training and work regimes
need to be integrated more closely.
