The manager of North Yorkshire Council’s youth offending team has
been jailed after admitting sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl
in his care.
Peter Foulsham, 48, was sentenced to eight months in prison after
pleading guilty to indecently assaulting the girl.
She had been placed under the care of Foulsham and his wife, who
had both been registered foster carers with York Council for 12
years before the incident in October 2002.
Sentencing him in Edinburgh, Sheriff Neil Mackinnon ordered
Foulsham to be placed under licence for three years after his
release and said he was responsible for “a disgraceful and
appalling breach of trust”.
Foulsham was suspended from his post when the allegation came to
light and will now face “further disciplinary action”, a
spokesperson for North Yorkshire Council said.
