A London council’s area child protection committee is
investigating the circumstances surrounding the rape of a school
teacher by a 15-year-old pupil.
The boy, now 16, admitted at the Old Bailey last week to raping
the 28-year-old teacher at the school where she worked. The court
heard the boy head-butted and threatened to kill her during the
attack on 7 September last year. He was remanded in custody until
sentencing on 17 June.
The council, which covers the school, said it had asked its
child protection committee to investigate what was known about the
boy’s background and what information should have been shared
between agencies and the school. Social services at another London
council was involved with the boy’s family when he was aged 10.
The boy had received a community service order for possession of
a knife earlier in 2004.
The Metropolitan Police said: “We will work with our partners to
see if there are any lessons that need to be learned.”
The teacher, who has not been able to return to work, praised
the Met’s Sapphire sexual offences unit.
