Roger Singleton, who recently retired as chief executive of children’s charity Barnardo’s, was awarded a knighthood for services to children in the new year honours.
Among the other social care figures rewarded were Glenys Jones, director of social services at Sunderland Council, and Nadra Ahmed, chair of the National Care Homes Association, who both received OBEs.
Louis Appleby, national director for mental health, received a CBE for services to medicine.
And Gordon Lishman, director general of Age Concern, was awarded a CBE for services to older people, to add to his OBE.
