Rob Greig, the national director for learning disabilities, has rebutted a media report claiming his post and that of Nicola Smith, Greig’s co-director, may be axed by the Department of Health.
A story in last week’s Health Service Journal said the posts would be among 14 “tsars” phased out by the DH. Greig told Community Care the DH had “made it clear” both posts would remain.
The Department of Health is understood to be reviewing its clinical directors that include older people’s tsar Ian Philp and mental health tsar Louis Appleby to see if any are underperforming or no longer considered a political priority.
