Court to rule on Alzheimer’s drugs today

The High Court will decide today whether the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence was wrong to decide to limit NHS access to three Alzheimer’s drugs on value for money grounds.

It will decide on a judicial review brought by drugs firms against the decision, which campaigners, service users and carers have united against.

Doctor charged with sex assault

A doctor has been charged with sexually assaulting a girl at a hospital and 17 counts of making indecent photographs of children.

Rashid Sandhu, who works at the James Paget University Hospital, Gorleston, Norfolk, has been suspended from duty since June, and was bailed to appear before Great Yarmouth magistrates on 10 September.

New prison likely to be built in North Wales

Justice minister Jack Straw is expected to announce that the government is considering building a new prison in North Wales today.

Straw will make the comments in response to a Welsh Affairs Committee report, which called for more prison spaces in Wales.
