Unison local government members across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be balloted on industrial action over this year’s 2.45% pay offer.
The union said that if members backed a walkout it planned a campaign of “escalating” action, starting with a two-day strike in early July.
Unison members backed strike action over last year’s 2.475% pay offer but the union’s leadership decided against a walkout because the majority in favour was not high enough to enable sustained industrial action.
Fellow unions GMB and Unite are yet to decide on whether to ballot members on industrial action, with branches still consulting members over the offer.
