Leadership Centre for Local Government

Like the Improvement and Development Agency (qv), the centre was established in April 2005 on the initiative of local government but in concert with agencies like the former Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Audit Commission, and the Employers’ Organisation. Like the IDeA, too, it is included here because its aims tie in so much with the tenor of the government’s modernisation programme.

It works with local authorities in England to develop the quality of leadership among political leaders and officers. It aims to equip leaders with the best skills, to develop their top teams and to create a pool of potential leaders for local government to draw on in the future.
