MPs warn Ofsted to keep a steady course

Ofsted could become “unwieldy and unco-ordinated” if it does not keep on top of its increased responsibilities, according to a report by MPs on the House of Commons’ children, schools and families committee, published today.

The report warned Ofsted and the government to “be alert” to any sign that the watchdog was moving off course due to taking on children’s social care and local authority children’s services among its responsibilities.

The committee said it had yet to see whether the expansion was sustainable in the long term.
