Community Care moves to new owner Mark Allen Group

Community Care enters into a new stage of its long history today as it transfers to the Mark Allen Group, a rapidly expanding publishing and events company.

The acquisition from Reed Business Information, which has owned Community Care for more than four decades, includes the four elements of the Community Care group: the Communitycare.co.uk news website; Community Care Inform Children and Inform Adults, the digital, subscription-based resources for social workers; the Community Care Jobs website; and Community Care Live, the premier social care learning and training event.

However, the proud traditions of Community Care remain in good hands as Mark Allen, chairman of the Mark Allen Group, was the original launch editor of Community Care magazine in 1974 and later became its publisher.

He said the acquisition by his own company, which he founded in 1985, “really is a dream come true”.

“RBI launched Community Care at exactly the right time and it rapidly became a well-respected, award winning and highly profitable magazine,” he added.

Further development

“However, this is not for me a sentimental trip down memory lane. Community Care is a totally different proposition to what it was when I was the launch editor more than 40 years ago. The Community Care team that we will be inheriting has created an amazing online resource, which has plenty of scope for further development.”

Debra Greening, publisher of Community Care, said she was confident Mark Allen Group would be a great home for the brand, which prides itself on the highest journalistic and publishing standards as well as constant innovation to meet the needs of the sector.

“We are entering into an exciting new phase with Community Care and I believe the Mark Allen Group is the right home to support the innovation and creativity we have always been known for,” she said. “I very much look forward to working with them.”

Mark Allen Group also owns Children & Young People Now, the magazine and website for leaders and senior practitioners across children’s and young people’s services.
