Social care is changing as never before, and people at senior levels are facing unprecedented challenges, whether they sit in the public, private or not-for-profit sectors, writes Debbie Sorkin, head of membership and engagement at the National Skills Academy for Social Care.
The skills academy believes that the development of leadership capabilities and behaviours is a critical factor in developing high-quality care and truly personalised services. For senior leaders especially, this need is even greater as they deal with a complex and evolving environment on a daily basis.
To meet this need, the skills academy has developed a new, flexible and responsive programme, Emerging Leaders. It will deliver practical and effective development to enable people working at higher levels in social care, and who are looking towards senior director-level or chief executive roles, to become more effective in their work and ready to take on higher-level responsibilities.
Delivered through a mix of residential workshops, one-to-one coaching and mentoring, and action learning sets, the programme is specifically tailored to developing strategic leadership in adult social care, with topics including:
• Leading with integrity;
• Developing a performance culture;
• Collaboration and partnership;
• Creating and maintaining highly effective teams;
• Inspiring others through vision and values;
• Commercial awareness.
The first programme will be starting in September, and is being offered at a special introductory rate of £2,500 plus VAT for skills academy members and £2,700 plus VAT for non-members.
Costs include all tuition fees, learning materials, coaching and accommodation. Places are limited, so for more details, please email the skills academy at or call us on 020 7268 3283.
