Spirituality fosters pluralism

The title of your editorial comment “Faith in the future” ( 0-19, March) was most apt since, if you believe that spirituality is a significant factor in a child’s resilience, faith schools may develop this.

Since spirituality encourages a recognition of the existence of a pluralist society, then faith may develop this too. If you believe that pluralism in society is a good thing, you cannot seek to deny its many and varied expressions. If you believe that government policies are about putting some cohesion into society and developing its pluralistic nature, then their experiments in education, health and elsewhere are valuable.
