An asylum campaign group on the verge of closing will continue to operate for the next few months at least after securing extra funding.
The National Coalition of Anti-Deportation Campaigns, which has campaigned for asylum seekers’ rights for more than a decade, has already shut its London and Middlesbrough offices and was due to close completely in May (Campaign to shut as funding dries up, 23 February).
But the extra money will enable it to continue to work from Manchester and Birmingham.
Emma Ginn, the coalition’s north-west co-ordinator, said it would focus on how to help other people set up their own support groups.
But she said the organisation still needed more funding commitments to survive in the long term.
The coalition will not register as a charity because it says this will place constraints on its ability to campaign for asylum seekers.
In the past six years it has received its main income from the Community Fund, but rules prevent it applying for more money.
