Charities split over cannabis decision

Mental health campaigners are divided on the decision not to reclassify cannabis.

Last week, home secretary Charles Clarke opted not to reverse the decision made two years ago to downgrade the drug to class C.

Rethink welcomed the decision, claiming reclassification would lead to more court cases and less rehabilitation. But Sane chief executive Marjorie Wallace said the decision would make it “even harder now to convince young people that by taking cannabis they are playing Russian roulette with their minds”.
