The Scottish executive and Welsh assembly government have launched initiatives to increase the role of the voluntary sector in delivering social care and health services.
The executive’s five-year vision for the sector sets out plans to help voluntary groups take a greater role in providing public services by reducing bureaucracy, improving funding arrangements and linking money more closely to agreed outcomes.
In Wales, the assembly government has funded the Welsh Council for Voluntary Organisations to “map” the 2,500 voluntary groups delivering social work services.
