Social work director sacked after overspend

A director of social work whose department overspent by
£1.4 million has been sacked, writes Nicola
    Barry.

Pam Fenton, head of social work and joint ventures for East
Dunbartonshire council, was dismissed after a disciplinary
investigation into how, in 2001-02, her department had ended up
almost 9 per cent over its £17.5 million budget.

The council found that there had been a breakdown of managerial
    control, although no fraud.

Fenton was suspended last June on full pay from her
    £55,000-a-year post.
