Number of children in care falls

The number of children entering care has fallen according to a
new report from the government.

But the Children Act Report 200 also shows that children are
staying in care longer because they have greater needs.

The report looks at the effectiveness of the Children Act 1989
detailing information from 11 key areas, including new statistics
from the Children In Need census.

Health minister Jacqui Smith said: “We have more information
than ever before about children’s social care. This report shows
that we have much to be optimistic about – there are fewer children
in care overall”.
