Care sector has unmissable chance to influence adoption policy

The social care sector has an unmissable opportunity to
influence new adoption policies in Britain, the annual Association
of Directors of Social Work conference was told.

David Cumming, who is a member of the ADSW children and families
standing committee, warned delegates that the chance to have its
say may be the only one the sector is given.

He was commenting on the current McConnell adoption policy
review in Scotland and the adoption bill in England, which is
expected to be revived after the general election.

Cumming, who is also operations manager for children’s
services with Edinburgh Council, said: “We, with the ADSW, are well
positioned to influence the way things are taken forward, and the
    chance may not come again.

“There is a distinct opportunity we have not had for some time,”
    he said.
